Saint-Denis is the capital of the French overseas region of Réunion and your destination on this largely coach-based sightseeing tour. You?ll leave the port of La Possession and travel east to reach the city and first enjoy a drive-by roundup of such sights as the former building of the East India Company, now the home of the Prefecture, charming Creole houses with their shady verandas on the Rue de Paris, the 19th-century cathedral and Hindu temples. A visit to the Jardin de l?État is next, where a beautifully landscaped parkland awaits you that was established in the 18th century. Then you?ll move on to the co-located Natural History Museum for a look at artefacts that illustrate the island?s flora and fauna. Free time will be yours to stroll around at your leisure before you move on again to a local market to browse handcrafted products, fragrances and spices ? a great place to haggle your way to a bargain.
