- Observations
1) Dinner Seating
Coming into our cabin we saw on our cruise card the SECOND seating mentioned, but we had the FIRST seating confirmed before – in writing.
We immediately went to the Maitre to ask for a change.
After having waited some time, the time was changed without any problem to the FIRST seating – and we received quite a nice table for two.
One wonders, why this was not done in the first place – in line with the confirmed booking?
2) Bar service
Too many times we encountered the situation that the service behind the bars (available staff) was unacceptable. Waiting times of 15min before getting service was normal.
As many persons had a drinking-package it seems that the staff could not cope with the amount of requests.
3) Tonic
On the day we left Gothenburg – so the third day of the cruise – bars were running out of Tonic water – on the day in Aarhus all bars had no more.
This never happened on any cruise before!
4) Food
The food in the restaurant was OK.
Most of time the hot food was served cold.
On the formal night we complained about it, the waiter brought us the same main dish – knowing that the food was cold before – and the plates he returned with were AGAIN cold food.
5) Tips
On day one we asked at the reception to book the tips back.
On the last night we received the ‘final invoice’ – the tips were still reflected.
ONLY after we went to the reception AGAIN were those tips booked back.
Complain
6) Balcony cabin – sea day
We had booked a balcony cabin – also bearing in mind the sea day – and planned to use it during the sea day.
However, on the day after breakfast we went onto the balcony – the ship was sailing quite slowly with hardly any wind – and realized immediately a very strong smell:
Thinners and / or paint.
So we could not use the balcony the entire day.
Naturally we called reception and complained – nothing happened.
The next day we followed up and learnt that ‘no more painting is going on now’.
Well, that was a bit too late!

- All the above was reported to reception – several times. You (MSC) will be able to see this in the record of the hotel manifest.
We got the information from the reception staff that most of the complains were not dealt with as there was not sufficient staff to attend them and that the time of the cruise was too short.
We have done more than 10 cruises, on various cruise lines, so far – and this response and reasoning blew us off our feet. It is basically nonsense. Offering a 5day/4 nights cruise this should really not be our problem and MSC should get their ducks in a row with regards to the service level AND dealing with customer remarks.
In the end we were advised by the reception staff that we should contact MSC on the website and formally lodge the above. So, apart from having reported it and repeated them at reception we now had to put in on paper, too.
It cannot get more complicated.
We would appreciated your / MSC’s soonest reply on the mentioned points.
Further, we appreciate a compensation of some sort – particularly concerning the service points and the fact that on the sea day the balcony was unusable – apart from all the waiting times at reception, the telephone and the Maitre.
